Bonework

We'll, we're all but there. It's been a while, I know.

The artwork for Itu's Bones is done and dusted and the NTSC Master is winging it's way to the replicator. The PAL version will follow shortly.

We should have them back in our hot little hands then on US shelves early in the New Year. Europe and Australasia shortly after  - so don't spend all your Christmas pocket money just yet.

It's been like the second coming, post production has taken me exactly twice as long as I'd anticipated. My machines have been cranking red hot for the last week crunching numbers on the final color corrections and compression.

Finishing up a project is always bittersweet - after months of post production I'm usually sick of the sight of it.
The final step is to see your luscious HD footage have the shit compressed out of it for MPEG2 to go to DVD - it's always disappointing to view the result.
The U.S NTSC versions are worse, lower resolution than PAL and color that looks like it's been strained through an old sock - Why the hell did the US and Japan go with the worlds worst television standard.

In saying all that, the film looks great, our best yet.

The whole Aitutaki Bonefish project has been a huge mission, one that we're very privileged to have been involved in.

Personally, I'm very grateful and proud to have met and befriended my Bonefish buddy Itu Davey. The whole experience has been a life changer - for all of us I suspect.

Itu, his family and the people of Aitutaki have shown incredible generosity and friendship to me and my family and we're all the richer for it.

They should be very proud of what they've achieved.
I certainly am.

We literally couldn't have embarked on this project without the help and support of Costa, Patagonia and Sage
They believed in what was a very ambitious project from the get go - big ups for having the balls to support it and the foresight to give back.

My heart is in Aitutaki.

… but my liver is still lost somewhere in Key West

Featurette on the New Sage Website

Itus' Bones featurette on the New Sage Website

Sage

If you managed to catch the Fly Fishing Film Tour or have been following what we've been up to these past months you'll know that we've got a great Bonefishing Film in Post production.
The 10 min featurette from Itu's Bones (and some of our stills) are up on the very slick new Sage website - check it out here http://www.sageflyfish.com/

We've also released the short on Youtube for embedding and linking here
Don't forget to subscribe to our channel to get access to heaps of great fly fishing videos.  We'll be releasing a  trailer for Itu's Bones within the next few weeks.
The completed film should be on the shelves towards the end of October.

We've had fantastic support from the industries top gear manufacturers on this one, pay them a visit.

 Costa Del Mar
Over the years I've tried just about every brand of Sunglass made - Without a doubt Costa's are head an shoulders above the rest.
Not only are their lenses superb but the design and engineering are truly excellent. One often overlooked aspect of Sunglass design is strength of construction - shades get a hammering out there , our Costas have certainly taken plenty of punishment.
Costa outfitted us with Permit and Blackfin shades - they're hot.

 Patagonia Fly Fishing
Patagonia outfitted us in cool flats gear for the hot South Pacific heat. Their clothing is extremely well designed, durable and manufactured with a conscience

 Sage
Sage came to the party with their superb new Xi3 rods, 6000 series reels and topped it all off with mountains of luggage and bags to hide all our kit.
Perfect!

iTunes - finally!

After an 8 month wait, Apple have finally launched Once in a Blue Moon on iTunes!
It's the first (and only) Fly Fishing Film on the platform and can be rented or purchased in standard def, or rented in 1080 HD.
As much as we would have liked to make it available for purchase in HD, the conditions imposed by Apple prevent us from doing that.
In order to be made available for HD purchase all films must feature full 5.1 surround sound, unfortunately Once in a Blue Moon just wasn't set up to do that. But we will look at it for future releases.
With the inclusion of Once in a Blue Moon on iTunes you can now watch the film on your iPod, iPhone, iPad or best of all, your Apple TV on a big luscious HiDef monitor.

We could really do with some positive reviews and ratings on this one, so if you have an iTunes account log in, give us a review and rate us up!

92 in the shade

This week I've been working through some of the shots we took on Aitutaki in November - it's a mission.

Jeanie took these three on a rare day off from atop a tourist boat out on the lagoon. I've done a color correction and applied some blur effects to reduce the apparent depth of field.

Winter is well and truly upon us here in southern New Zealand and Aitutaki seems like a world away.
